Counterculture is a response to abuse of power and how systems of power criminalize that which threatens their control. At the turn of the century, England controlled commerce by sea with violence and the armada their wealth facilitated; Piracy was the subcultural response. This large scale drawing is anchored in art history (The Capture of the Pirate, Blackbeard by Jean Leon Farris 1920) and stitched to transgressive rail-grinding contemporary counterculture
